Raising a Kid at 18

June 25, 2008

OK, so tonight on NBC was Baby Borrowers. I saw it in one of my magazines and wondered what it was about. So I looked it up online and I read it was a reality TV show about 5 teen couples who see if their relationship will last or whatever when they are given kids to “raise” and pretty much get the life an adult gets. First its a baby, then toddler, preteen, teenager and an old person. LOL. Check out the site for video clips and who the 5 couples are, click here. In this show though nobody gets paid (not the kids or the parents who loaned their kids for the “social experiment” as NBC calls it) and nobody gets eliminated. There’s no prize.

So far I like it. It was kinda funny at first cuz the girls had to wear these pregnant suits the first day and one of the girls on the show got in a huge fight with her boyfriend just cuz he laughed at her a little bit when she came out from the room in it. They had a hard time with the babies too, some of the adults (they monitor how everything is going with cameras in every room in the homes) stepped in to encourage the kids to not get frustrated and were pleased while other parents were…mmm not very happy at all to say the least. Out of all the couples I’m rooting the most for Alicea and Cory, they’ve been together for 3 years now and I really think they’ll last. Alicea kinda got frustrated after the baby’s real mom stepped in and “bitched” at her (as Alicea put it), so she told Cory to do everything. I really think Alicea needs to get it together and give it another go before giving up cuz I’m rooting for her and Cory!! :D

Besides Alicea and Cory, I’m also rooting for Jordan and Sasha. Jordan was really sweet and let Sasha take a nap while he put together the crib and everything before their baby came. So far they haven’t had any fights and have been doing pretty well with their kid. I think they’ll last too. As you can tell, I’m really glued to the show! I’m almost 16 and even at 18 I can’t imagine raising a kid and all that. I can’t even take care of myself yet much less someone else. Babysitting is one thing but being the actual parent? I think eventually you get into that mom mode or whatever but raising a kid so young does look hard. At least to me!! ;)
